Love, Like Life, Finds A Way

I’m late to the table with my thoughts on gay marriage marriage equality passing in New York state last week but things have been crazy busy in the last ten days.

I’m on vacation this week and I’m sitting on a train speeding from London to Glasgow and I’m reminded of a quote from Jurassic Park, of all things. Jeff Goldblum’s character Dr. Ian Malcolm is discussing the Park in the context of evolution’s penchant for life to escape all barriers.  We are barely a minute out of the station and I look out the window to see plants and small trees growing out of the stone walls and Dr. Malcolm’s prophetic warning springs directly to mind. “Life finds a way.” Indeed.

Love is the same way. New York’s is merely the most recent government to realize the inevitability of marriage equality. Same sex couples the world over have found a way to make a family, with or without children, and let love rule.

You can ban marriage equality. You can imprison people for loving who they love. You can fire good soldiers for holding hands. But you cannot stop love. It endures.

Lesbians Chastised For Kissing @ Twins Baseball Game

Oh the irony.

A quick peck between a lesbian couple during a Minnesota Twins game leads to an as yet unidentified male security guard telling them “I saw you kissing that girl, you can’t do that.” and “We don’t play grab ass here.”

Good thing he doesn’t work in Seattle or New York where they take their grab assin’ almost as serious as their baseball:

It’s not against the law to show affection people.

Former NY Giants Baller Says Gay Marriage = Anarchy

For real? In an interview with the National Organization for Marriage former NY Giant football player David Tyree says that “Marriage is one of those things that is the backbone of society. So if you redefine it, it changes the way we educate our children, it changes the perception of what is good, what is right, what is just.”

Um, dude? You mean like how in 1865 the US ratified the 13th Amendment and redefined who is free? Crap, that was horrible for the country! C’mon people. Don’t use arguments like this to deny equal rights – it just exposes your hypocrisy. Slavery was abolished because it was wrong and unjust. So is keeping queers from having the same rights are you have.

Just be honest. You’re a homophobic jerk. Own it.
